hi,

I have a ceiling mounted extractor fan in the bathroom and a cloak room is connected to it using ducting - this means the fan extracts air from both these rooms when either or both had their lights on.

Could someone shed some light on how this could be done using pull-cord switches?

Regards

If I understand your question you will need to install relay to keep the two lights seperate, or both lights will be on whenever one is switched on.

Or you could use two 2 way pull cord switches for the fan only. It would mean you would have to remember to switch on the fan when using the bathroom though.

Thanks for the reply. But I do not want separate switches for the fan and it should come on as follows:

  1. When only the cloak room lights are turned on
  2. or, when only the bathroom lights are turned on
  3. or, both bathroom and cloak room lights are turned on.
  4. the fan should be off only when the lights in both bathroom and cloak room are off.
Cheers!

This is the exact same reply I gave on another current thread

You can do it with douple pole switches

Use one side of the pull cord as a normal 1 way switch
From the switched (load) side of those wires feed the other side of the double pole switch with a loop of wire, then from that load side feed the fan
Do the same with the other pull cord in the other room
So in effect at the fan you will have two switched feeds
They cannot back feed to the light of the other room,as long as they are on the same supply it works ok
Two pull cords will be easy and cheap
