how to become an electrian

I have been looking online and having a hard time finding information on becoming an Electrician. How did you guys start? What kind of classes/degree did you take or have? I am speaking to a counselor next week but wanting to get more info ahead of time to research. Thanks in advance!

This is a UK forum I suggest as you state your location is Arizona that a US based forum would give more suitable answers, regarding qualifications licenses and the NEC.
