Hi, having walls wallpapered and papered and don't want to keep the present light fittings on the walls. Obviously we will remove the light fittings before the walls are decorated but won't be replacing the light fittings for a few weeks - time and money!! How should we make the wires "safe" temporarily until we have new lights fitted? Thank you.

there are a couple of ways. tbh, for what it would cost, compared with the price of wallpaper etc., i'd get a local electrician to do this and fit the new lights when you get them. that way, you'll know it's been done safely. 1 or 2 members are in your area and i'm sure will give you a sensible quote.... archie!!!!

I'll agree with Tel...electricity can kill without discrimination

However...if you are determined to DIY....

Power off and check that its dead.
Use 2 port Wago lever connectors (each wire goes into a seperate "wago") and enclose them in a wagobox making sure the grey sheath is enclosed in the box and no coloured cores are showing.

However...a pack of wagos and a box of wago boxes will set you back ~ÂŁ25 to ÂŁ35...which for that price isn't far different than I would charge for a quick and simple job like this.
Plus its a prime time to ask said sparky about anything else you have electrical doubts over (flickering light, that fusebox thats older than fred flintstone etc)
Chocolate biscuits are also always appreciated

For a Garibaldi and a mug of cocoa I'd power off, fit back boxes, terminate, patch plaster and paper behind and fit cover plates
