Hi guys, I've finally managed to get the opportunity to price for a nice size job, trouble is I was going to price it on day work but the architect has said they want a total price. Trouble is it is very difficult to put a time scale on the job, what would be the thing to do? Also the Job will take 6 - 8months nearly full time. How much do you guys normally charge for a day if you are in a job for this amount of time? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Just curious what's the job then...? Must be something quite substantial for a 6-8 months duration...

hi yes this is a substanial one. it is a large house, one beedroom over 26m2 alone thatsd without the 5 ensuites, 3 bathrooms and 3 walk in wardrobes. there are 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms and a study the size of my house.

the chap is wanting to add a 4 car garage and offices by ways of an extension, amongst everything else he wants. we did his last house a few years back but when i was a builder just out of school.

would be very nice to get the job but as we all know its who you know.

ive never priced anything so big. a friend who is pricing the plumbing has a rather expensive comp program to cost out his side of things and he is going to help me do mine. just dont want to go in too high and lose it or go in too low and lose money as the job this size will easily take me under if i get it worng

There are a couple of ways to finance this job,
but basically it'd deposit, prior to job commencing
stage payment upon completion of 1st fix
final payment upon completion
alterations, variations and accelerations to be paid 30 days from end of month (as per variation invoice)
signed paperwork prior to alterations, variations or acceleration.
agree who is authorised to sign variation paperwork.

there is a great paperback called "The Streetwise Subbie" written by Jack Russell.
it was originally a series of articles in the electricians times

if you haven't read it, its a great read

This kind of size job should have an electrical drawing, if not, ask for one... Then price off that... If your still struggling copy and scan, post on here and we can help.

Thanks guys for the help. Thank you very much for the kind offer I think I will need to scan it in. I have a drawing as basic as it is, ended up sending two lists to architect as he had missed little things like the location of main and consumer unit :)
