Welcome to the forum.

Looks like that cable has been stud on from both sides of the joist and the clip has taken off the out sheathing. You need to get that sorted out by an Electrician.

Post up your location for a quote to fix the above and to install an adequate cctv system for you.

No that's a Google picture, i will take pictures myself tomorrow, i forgot to take my phone upstairs,

looks like you have a problem with mice/rats judging by that cable and pipe lagging.

Edit: looks like there is a few droppings as well
Agreed vermin trouble either past or present. Get someone round to carry out an inspection as you appear to have exposed live conductors which is a health and fire hazard. Also the rest of the installation needs to be checked, you could have other vermin damaged cables as well.

most of the wiring in the attic will be for lighting, whereas a socket should come from the circuit supplying sockets. an electrician will be able to advise after a site visit. as mad paul said, post your location and one of us might be close.

Genius, he used a googled picture of T+E that was nibbled and bare to show the type of wiring he has in loft - that's a red herring if ever we've experienced one.
Anyway, to the original poster - someone from the forum may be in your area to take a look, use them for your requirements.
Chuckle at the picture!
