A recent project of ours has been to carry out an audiovisual installation within a flat that was having a total refurb.

whilst we were there, we saw the builders were doing all the wiring themselves (not electricians) and making a very unsafe job of it:

no earth at all on any circuit
all metal face plates
all ring mains broken
no earth bonding
no RCD protection
wiring outside for sockets & lights
ring mains sometimes feed lighting circuits and vice versa
electrical components inside zones 1, 2 in bathrooms
using tape to make joints in cables (no junction boxes)

as my company normally does all our own electrical work, i have never been in a position where i have seen this before. it is very unsafe. the project manager employs the builders and doesn't want to hear anything about them not being able to carry out this work competently - so my question is how can i report this? and who to? before someone gets hurt the house is also up for sale when complete but project manager has lied to building control and said no new wiring, gas, plumbing or structural work was going to happen.....all of it has happened!

Are you the property owner or client paying for the work ?
If not they tell your concerns to the owner and step away.
Its not your fight if you're only another contractor on the job.

Work like this shouldn't be done nowadays with all the schemes and regs. If it was a job I was paying for or not I'd report it, no harm in a phone call to building control to give them a heads up on what you've seen going on.

Issue a EDN then send a copy to the LA Environmental Health Department (housing Department).

The LABC will forward it to them anyway so you might as well go straight to them.

I have all the email addresses so post the county and I will happily supply the email address

Hi again, "trying to save money" doesn't really come into it. We parted company with the original sparky, as he was so unreliable. Jon
