Hello, My Sister gave me a standard and table lamp set nearly 15years ago, they were screw fittings and me being an idiot wanted baynot cap fittings so changed them over by just attaching the wires to the new baynot cap things I bought. Now this worked ok for years but when the bulb blows the fuse and now my electic whole house box trips.

I found one of the wires in the smaller/table lamp was loose and fixed it myself but next time the bulb blew, again the whole electic fuse box tripped.

The tall standard lamp was checked up where the bulbs are fitted and I could see no loose wire here so think it must be broken further inside.

I must apologize for how this is written, I'm hopeless at trying to explain but please give me the chance to sort these lamps, they have become sentimental value now.

For the moment I will enclose a photo of the table lamp and will take a picture of the Standard lamp later. It would be great if I could be directed to instructions.

Regards Margaret

This is a picture of the lamp I mean

To be honest witout actually looking at the lamps and how you did the conversion it is hard to tell what is happening. Have you by any chance had a new RCD board fitted to your home?

If they are of such sentimental value why not as an electrician to look at them, the most it would be is a hour or so work and you would have the peice of mind of having them working correctly and safely.

agree with malcolm, but ... it is quite common for RCDs to trip when a light bulb blows. there may not be anything wrong with the fitting.

Hey guys Thank You for your replies. I don't know what an RCD board is but I think you mean my main house fuse box that trips when the bulb blows. Well I changed the bulb and the fuse and tried the lamp again but it just blew and tripped again. So when I stripped the lamp down again there is not enough wire for me to repair it again so it will need completely rewired. I did ask an electrician to come but he said he was very busy and would have to take them away to repair them. I'd rather they were repaired on the premises but I did agree but he just didn't come
