The answer given remains the same. I note from your reply that you know the OSG means on site guide and as you are learning that is the best place to get factual information that will not confuse or mislead you.

Reading this forum as you have been doing you will see many different answers to one question as a learner how would you know which is right or wrong and why or which answer if they were all correct which would be the best one.

Having learnt what is necessary from your course then all of us will help and advise.

Sorry if you are offended by a correct answer.

Hi there.

I dont think he meant it to sound like that, it's hard to convey sentiment by typing.;)

Ze is the earth fault loop path external to the property i.e the supply line + earth.

Zs is the earth fault loop path of the external supply as Ze, but also including the internal circuitry i.e a lighting circuit or a ring circuit.

These are measured to make sure any fault current has a low resistance path to earth in order for any fuses/MCB's/RCD's to switch off and clear the fault to stop us getting a shock.

This is a fairly simplistic explanation just for you to have an idea.

Cheers.:)

i just dont know y u said they should b second nature as i neva done testing b4. im just willing to learn that is all

thanks

The second nature bit was nothing more than to let you know how well you should learn it. Everything you do as an electrician is pointless and possibly dangerous unless inspection and testing are dare I say it second nature to you.

As I said sorry if I offended you

Chris

thanks lenny. but with testing from earth its not connecting probes to the cu earth block but to the supply earth? and to live?

Not meaning to create an argument, but that's pretty harsh. We have plenty of young electricians on for us who arent clued up on testing. Whilst I beleive that they should at least be familiar with testing to be considered a 'proper spark', the fact they they arent doesnt mean that they arent good sparks, or that they cant bang in trunking/tube/wiring as well as anyone. To say what they are doing isnt safe (or pointless?),because they arent fully conversant with testing is, as I said, a little unfair.

Yes I think ACAT jumped the gun a bit there and maybe assumed you were a sparks rather than a trainee, I'm sure he meant no harm.
Basically, your Ze is the external earth loop impedance and Zs is earth loop impedance at your socket outlet or final circuit so this is a combination of the external impedance and internal impedance

learner, if you PM me your email address I can send you a pdf file of a test and inspection book which will be valuable for your college course.

I recently qualified but before my first day at college bought an OSG and it paid for itself ten times over when trying to understand what the lecturers were going onabout. If you can afford one, get it a.s.a.p it really is a great and nescessary tool to have.

Good luck with your learning and don't be offended by anyone on here, I think the problem lies on these forums that many regular people and cowboys ask question to try to do jobs they are obviously not competent to do. It is very difficult to differenciate between them and learners so don't take it to heart.

Get yourself registered on here and put in your profile your current situation, there really is a great group of guys on here willing to help.

So you passed your others when you were 15 .. A quote from the other account you have been using..

I have not done testing for over a year got 2391 and rest of qualification

Now who looks silly..

Stick to the one account and do not create anymore fake ones to ask questions...
