Customer having extension and all electrics done by their sparky.

But I'm booked in to do kitchen appliance electrics with kitchen company I do some work for (always before I have done whole install myself), basically their sparks has left me the tails for hob, oven, appliance sockets to go in cupboards etc.... he will be second fixing all the spurs and isolators and I'll be doing the rest...

He's put in a new install for whole lot, nicely done, CU upgrade also and he'll be issuing an NICEIC EIC for his work.

But my question is how do I certify this... do I do my own EIC ?

Many Thanks,

Sy

Agreed, I wouldn't cert at all. What you are doing isn't going to be livened up while you're there, and you aren't completing the work - their spark may put everything reversed polatrity, for example, and there's no way you'd be able to carry out Zs, RCD or even full IR and low ohm tests.

I'd say no cert, maybe a signed note saying exactly what you've done if they want something in writing. If they want you to produce a cert, tell them you want to finish the job. If they get iffy, just say you'll do a cert if you can come back and do a full test, and tell them how much that will cost them (loads).

Apparently their sparks will be finished and long gone before kitchen goes in.... they're not local (2 hours drive away) so I can't see matey poping back and testing after I have connected my appliances.

Umm will have to see what happens, not sure how he will be able to complete his EIC otherwise?

Yep I will be able to power up when done as will all be ready complete. So I'll just do my tests and issue an MW cert?

Thanks Sy

For the cost in time and energy doing a MW is no big deal just do it the customer can then add it to their ever increasing paper trail :D then there are no questions like our other electrician gave us one etc

Didn't read the question right - just do a minor detailing everything you've done. Also make a note of what you haven't done. Easy peasy. Probably don't need to do one, but why not.

Customer is adament that she wants some sort of certificate from me....ok then, they're paying me day rate so no worries there  ching ching....ÂŁÂŁ

Good point that thank you, just in case matey's stuff goes bang  don't want it coming back on me really...

We're currently doing the same working on some luxury apartments in London and the kitchens are the last things to be installed/fitted in the flat as they are very expensive. We've just been told to bring the load cable out and put them in JBs then they can be tested and left for the kitchen fitters to fit. We won't be going back after the kitchens to then test but all live testing will be done before the kitchens go in.

So really in answer to your question I don't think a cert will be required as your just changing say JB to Acessesory, But minor works cert. would be good for your own peace of mind.
