I do not believe it! I’ve just been defending BS7671 and BS1363 against a bunch of American / Canadian sparks. There’s a lot of 7671 I don’t agree with. But to have it shot down by spark from countries that can’t even standardise their supply voltage, never mind socket outlets was to much for me!

The funny bit was the argument was started by a guy from Sri Lanca.

Lol, Sri Lanka use BS1363 accessories too!

Best plug & socket system in the world!

I think the thing that really galls them is that the BS 7671-2008 is being adopted as standard in a load of places, here and the middle east in general is an example,

I was in a meeting a few weeks ago and we submitted our scope of work to the client and when it came to the power sockets we advised on BS 1363, and of ocurse all the tech data and pictures of them, the client quoted

Good your using proper power pojnts and not those GE or Westinghouse pin type sockets, they are no good, sitting there with smirk

Worst bit was trying to get through to them was a basic fact. Yes a BS1363 plug goes in to an outlet with a 32A protected feed, but the appliance is protected by the internal plug top fuse. Oh no we should have numerous radials each protecting the relative size of outlet.

OK I did muddy the water a bit by adding that we do occasionally use 5A outlets for feature lighting. Only to stop the wife plugging the hoover in to a socket and blowing the dimmers out of the wall. (Could be an interesting idea if 3KW dimmers were cheaper).

I’ll bet the manufacturers of CU’s must hate BS7671. Your average new build would need a CU the size of a small power station switchboard if we used NEC guidelines.

having received a US adaptor with a mobile phone with open unshuttered terminals any child could poke something metal into, sent the whole thing back for refund.
