Hi,

I am seriously looking to become an electrician, i have seen a couple of courses and the one that stands out to me at the moment is the OLCI course. I've been told by various people, to become a fully qualified electrician i need to have the NVQ level 3, I've been readind through alot of posts on the forum and all the different numbers of qualifications are begining to confuse me!!

Could anyone please let me know the correct qualifications needed to get to an NVQ level 3 Standard, also any information about courses, who to do them through or not to do them through etc.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

thanks

Theres so many differing tales out there, from what I'm told by my tutors you have to do the technical aspect 2330 levels 2-3, and then the hands on Nvq level 3, and am2 and 17th edition as well. took me 3 years to figure this out and as of 31 march it all changes unless your already registered on NVQ course........

firstly, it is essential to have an eastern european accent, speak poor english, have no understanding of cable requirements or current regulations. buy a few cheap tools from aldi, and away you go. ÂŁ6-ÂŁ7 per hour .

ok, have youstarted the nvq3?
this qualification is a on site diary you complete at work taking pictures of work you do.
i believe you need to do an am2 test although i think it depends on when you apply for nvq3 but not sure?
there is an end of march deadline for nvq3 so am2 not needed by the way, but i dont know if this effects you?
17th edition required
health and safety test required
apply to jib for jib card required
when graded a a electrician you will be able to get onto sites as an electrician.
note:
you will not be able to complete much domestic work without being registered with a part p registered body such as neic, elecsa etc
this requires membership of bodies and yearly inspections by bodies, insurance proper calibrated equipment etc although you can your local authority body to sighn work off for you but this can become very expensive.
