Hi im a self employed electrician and have had an idea which id like some advice on if possible. I have often wondered that when people buy property abroad ie france, spain, portugal etc and they need the place rewiring if they would prefer to use a british electrician, if i could offer a service where i go and carry out their electrical works. I would like advice about this, has anyone heard or done this before? if so how to set it up? where to advertise the service? and are their forums that i can advertise on to the expats?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

No sorry i don't know anyone. But I can't see anyone wanting to pay for you to fligh over, when they can get someone cheaper local. Even if the workmanship is crap abord it all comes down to money at the end of the day:( Sorry to put a dampner on your idea mate.

But If you do get a job on I'll come with you, I could do with topping my tan up:p

Best of luck

I realise that, thats the sticking point, but you can fly to europe for next to nothing now, so therefore i think you could carry out the works for roughly the same price that you would charge here. Im just trying to broaden my horizons and break into a new market that i feel could be very good if i can get the right sort of advertising. If people can afford to renovate abroad then i feel that they would pay that little bit extra to use a spark from the uk, where they know they are going to get alot better workmanship. Thanks

nice idea. Just something to consider though. Im assuming that you would transport your tools with you when you go and pick up the materials local to the site?

What would happen if the airline were to lose your bag containing some of your major tools (Drills, chaser/grinder, testmeter etc?)
Just a possible scenario but i like the idea. :)
