I need some advice on wiring automatic truck bed lights

Hello... I have very little experience with electrical wiring. I am wanting to install some led strips underneath my bedcover that turn on when the tailgate is open. I also want to be able to override that just in case I need to open the tailgate while driving or something else. I know some people use a pin switch, but I rather not have to drill into my frame. I am wanting to use a magnetic or reed switch but I’m not sure exactly if it will work. I will attach the diagram I plan to follow expect using a magnetic switch instead of the pin switch. Will this work? I would want a NC magnetic switch, right?Also, can I use a magnetic switch on the frame of my truck? Or will that interfere? If so, can I put some plastic underneath or is there another way to make that work?
