Just had to pop in to screwfix and as I was waiting for my item I noticed a gentleman who had bought a pack of ten 15mm x 3m plumbers PVC tube and a drum of 1.5mm PVC/PVC cable. Couldn't help but wonder what he had planned

WHY o WHY dont they just get some armoured..and do it right....? Further more, why doesn`t the counter sense that the guy isn`t a sparks and suggest the right materials and the correct way to do the job or to get an electrician to make off the armoured etc...........

That's an easy one to answer.

They don't know what the are doing.

I was in the local electrical wholesalers who are quite big in my area ( reading) and the guy serving me asked what the difference is between a double pole switch and a single pole switch.

He suggested using a single pole because it's cheaper.

Probably because it's not the place of a store keeper / sales person to question such a customer?

Are you suggesting Screwfix shouldn't be selling plumbers tube and t&e (especially together) just in case they're used in a bodge? Maybe the customer was installing an outside tap and some downlighters in his lounge.

Right, I'm off to Asda to buy some bacon, washing up liquid, milk and bog roll. What do you think I'm going to do with all those then?

My old (now retired) wholesaler used to sell anything to anyone as "business is business", always used to make me smile what people would come in asking for.

If any of the have a go yourself types ask me for advice I just smile politely and tell them if they don't know they should not be doing it, then bid them good day as I nip back to the van.

Regards wa

First of all adam, nobody said anything about whether screwfix (or anybody else) should or should not sell products to the public but i would have thought that armoured would be the correct product to use (for garden lighting) wouldn`t you agree? And as far as the contents of your asda shopping basket is concerned....couldn`t give a monkeys mate. It may be that the gent in question had a totally different use for it (fishing perhaps) as topquark suggested. Its a mystery....

Had a young guy in a wholesalers once who asked me why do we ( sparks ) use different sized cable for lights and sockets, is it because its easier to get the 1.5 into the ceiling roses ??

You seem to have missed the point - you don't know what he was going to do with them, or even if he was going to try to combine the t&e and plumbers tube, so how do you know if he was buying the right products? What some random guy buys in screwfix and in what combinations concerns you just as much as what I buy in asda - I wouldn't expect a chef to clock what I've got in my basket and start badmouthing me on a forum suggesting I was going to cook up some bogroll wrapped in bacon in a sauce made from milk and washing up liquid - they just happen to be things I need for various reasons.
