hi all,

After searching high and low i finally found a van!! bought a toyota hiace... absoloutely beautiful van. Now im trying to make it secure as possible.

Ive fitted dead lock to rear barn door and side sliding door.

i noticed the sliding door is easily accessible to theives with a small screw driver. so ive disconnected the key lock and you can only unlock door with remote on key which is a result!!

got some nice metal shelving inside with a lockable compartment which is another result!!

Any tips from Hiace owners or other type of vans on security??

these are good..

12V DC Car Security Smoke Screen

search for Sterling Steel Shackleless Van Lock on scr*wfix. Have seen them on a few vans and they look good. Only 3 reviews on it mind and very mixed - mind with these things people often only bother if it didn't work for them - if it was ok they don't bother.

they are good, its mobile version of a smoke cloak, and at around £300 its about the price of a few drums of cable..never mind tools.meters, test equipment well worth the investment..

the problem with vans is no matter how many locks you have, its easier to drill a few holes in the side and peel it back, food tins have more strength than a van..

A cage separating the front from the rear, and one on the inside of the rear window.
Silver film over the rear window to stop people looking in.
Remove any door buttons from the doors, so no one can smash a window and open the doors.
Install Stainless Steel lock covers and round key locks to prevent anyone forcing the locks.
Alarm and imobiliser.

Move to an area where there aren't any scumbags :) then you don't need to worry about security. I rarely lock my van - unless there are tourists around ;)

Nice security ideas. After much ponder I settled for a hatchback car with all the tools I need in the back. It's the only way to make you unsuspecting of carrying worthy gear. If there is a break in (God-forbid) I am cleaned out! It's a high-risk low danger scenario. Down side is when there is a nice big job on I'll have a nice job fitting in the lengths of oval conduit in. Furthermore, some stuff has to stay home (where I work from) unless called for. Theft of one's bread-making gear is one reason why I simply do not but second-hand tools of any kind. Given the van option I'd have a van-vault fitted for times when I'd be departed from my vehicle for more than half a day or so. All the best.

Wife left my car keys in the door 3 days later neighbours boy came in keys in hand "You left these in your door Iv locked it for you" lol even our new house is great dont need neighbourhood watch we have the neighbours kids they keep everyone away lol

Id say the more security you put on it the more likely some 1 is to break into it, It says to me there somat in there worth stealing lol
Insure it to the hilt and/or a decent alarm.
A friend has fitted some security locks from an old house door he had kicking around, They dont work but look the part lol
Id say a cheap option would be to buy some stickers from the bay that say you ve got a all singing dancing alarm when you have nt.
