Hi all,
I had a call out yesterday for an elderly lady wanting an outside light fitting. She clearly has no money but wanted an external plastic standard lamp she had got from somewhere installing outside in the middle of a grassed area. In short order it was clear this was going to be cost prohibitive, but cutting to the chase, it's when I made a quick inspection of the board buried deep in the back of garage full of clutter I discovered this gadget installed on the meter tails before the rest of the installation. Any ideas what this is ? (the image isn't too clear as there was hardly any light.. it's a Hagar device marked with 80Amp rating and a test button. Some sort of formative RCD ??)
The installation is currently lethal as it has no protective earth and a string if DIY cabling and terminations.. The choc block you can just see at the bottom connects an MET to the fusebox with a stranded bare bit of wire but the MET is not connected to any earth (Not PME at the head) I'd run a mile but someone is going to die if I don't get this sorted for her one way or another..
