Hi guys,

If anyone has knowledge on this subject I would be very greatful for some answers because so far I can not think for the life of me why this has happened!!

I installed 4 patio infrared heaters in a pub garden everything was supplied by me apart from the four heaters which they had banging around from somewhere.

Two were rated at 1500W and two were rated at 1300W. They all had 1300W bulbs in them and just after a month of using them three of them have burnt out. Just on one side of the element it has soldered itself to the fitting.

I cannot understand why??.... has anyone ever had a similar experience?

Cheers lads

could be ppor contact between the end of the element and the spring contact. get it a lot on 500w halogen floods as well. how old are the fittings they had lying around?

The heaters had glass covers on em, and I'm sure they were in there nice and tight.... god knows how old they were, but the manufacturers have gone bust last june so that's handy... not looking forward to telling the customer that 3 are nackered :-( especially without a good reason.....

Next question..... can someone think of a good BS reason why this could happen.... and by that I dont mean british standards

Test you installation, Fully!! IR, Zs, visual.........everything! and if its all good then tell them that their shat fittings have gone for a burton!

Oh and make sure you charge for the replacements. sooner clients realise that fittings they suppy are their problem the better!

If you didn't supply the heaters then why bother making tall stories? I think the fact the supplier has gone belly up probably means they are just poor quality products.

Have to agree if they where not supplied by you what are you worrying about as long as your installation is OK.

For future reference it may be an idea to put an addition in your T&C that any equipment not supplied by you is not your responsibility should it go wrong.
