Thought I'd make an introduction thread. Named it "Introduction Thread - 1" as I'm hoping it'll be too huge one day to really browse through so we can always make another with more up to date trainees and apprentices in it so it's all current.

So I'll start us off.

I'm Dan, I'm 30. I'm a wall and floor tiler by trade, ran a private training centre teaching tiling at one point but then moved onto selling electric underfloor heating on the net. While I was selling heating a tiling forum was growing without my knowledge that I'd setup when teaching tiling. Off the back of that one forum that was first launched in 2006, I now currently own 17 active forums, about 5 not so active, and even try to buy them when I spot one for sale for a reasonable price (not happened yet but nearly bought a few until realising they're dying not growing as I was told lol).

I'm hoping to run a whole network for forums like the few firms in America do. I'm growing a Construction Network, an Automotive Network, and then Sports, Recreation and Leisure sort of Vertical. Willing to grow any though as long as they take off and get good members like you guys.

I used to build websites for people but don't have time for it now. I can't build a website unless I treat it like my own, so even a simple 5 page website that takes me a couple of hours to build, actually takes up thousands of hours in optimisation and trying to beat the main 1 guy in searching engines for whatever search terms it's meant to be ranking for. I can't just build one, hand it over, and walk away. It does my head in not seeing it at the top of page 1 on Google, I'd rather not say I built it if I have to leave it like that. haha

I'm not handy for sparky training, but if you ever need website or online marketing (or even offline marketing for tradesmen I'm pretty good in that area - just not chocolate offline marketing or whatever, I wouldn't know where to start). And I've managed to get quite a few websites taken down that are in breach of copyright or are stealing something from my websites, I can even get websites de-ranked from google for years for doing it. So if you ever need advice, or get ripped off online, let me know first and I'll do my best to help you out.

Clearly I'm not actually training sparky-wise but I thought I can't make the thread and then sod off. So there's my bit done.

I'm 50 and have been doing the job since leaving full time education, school kicked me out on a Friday and my apprenticeship started on the Monday. I've worked on all sorts of installations, domestic, commercial, medical and industrial although there are guys on here who could make me look like a new starter.
On a personal level I have 1 wife 2 sons 1 daughter 1 grandson 1 dog (who I swear is more switched on than the daughter at times) and 8 guitars.
I'll help you all as much as I can as often as I can but don't expect me to do your homework, I didn't do that for my own kids so I'm not going to do it for someone else's. I will push you towards the right answer though.

Ok, my turn.

My name is widdler - I sometimes get referred to as David.

I am a 30 year old third generation electrician and did the apprenticeship with the family firm as I had little or no clue as to what else to do.
I did the 2360 from 1998 to 2001 and most of my apprenticeship was served at Ascot Racecourse, so it was one of the most suitable and diverse environments for a newbie to work in - we also did a lot of domestic on the side.

I did the 2391 straight away on completion of 2360, the following year in 2002 - I had a lot of hands on testing experience prior with my old man as we were the technical guys in the firm.

I left the family firm for pastures new (and money too) to work for a local authority as an electrician - in this job I climbed up the ladder and was appointed the voids duty, which meant everyday testing and so I was pushed to the Qualifying Supervisor role.

I then carried on as a QS for a few companies in the insurance, and commercial sector - before starting up a domestic installer company just to satisfy some of the Part P requirements to some of my private work.

Then a few years ago, I started to help with the practical workshops for the 2330, and then the level 3 theory.

In this transition to teaching I myself have had to relearn everything and complete a shed load of courses, some electrical, some teaching. Some of the electrical courses included 2382, 2393, 2392, 2391-20, 2377-22, 2377-32, & PV. I am currently awaiting to complete the exam for the 2394, 2395 and 2396 (all in a busy week in November).

So I deliver all of these courses and the 'proper' courses such as 2330, 2356/7 & 2365.
I also do thermal training as an Level 1 and 2 thermographer.


I am now fortunately positioned as the head of training for a nationally reputable company that also sell equipment and calibrations - so I have good access to these resources.


My other interests include programming, web development and anything geeky.

Ive been in this game since January 2012 where I worked on a power station in Cambridge as a mate. Loved it ever since. Once getting back after working away, ive now enrolled onto college in Port Talbot, doing to 2330 lvl 2 and eventually mapping into 2357 when my college takes it on. Im currently working on a hospital in Swansea as a mate. Im a singer in a band, spearfisher, fisherman, free diver, scuba diver,my mates call me the ' aqua assasin '

hi every one my name is Ashlee Baker and im 24 years old living in kingston upon hull, I am currently in my second year on the new c&g 2357 and must say i am loving it i actually look forward to going to college on a Thursday haha.

I worked as a electrical laborer in student accommodation for 2 years prior to going to college that's where i started to realize i enjoy doing electrical work since then i have been doing work on commercial sites (e.g schools) for agency's which is only temporary so have to keep finding work haha.

What i see for my future is getting fully qualified and going to work abroad in Australia or new zeland or Canada well i hope too any way.

Ill be asking any questions i am not sure about and i am willing to help any one who has any questions so just ask and i will help if i can.

Wow, I missed this thread as well. The name's Andy and I'm a South African engineer operating in sub-Saharan Africa (mostly). Noordhoek (where I live) has an impressive 1 paragraph entry here in Wikipedia.

I'm not an electrician as such, I'm a business owner and work mostly on systems integration. My company employs a few field engineers and we also operate a small factory where we design and assemble various types of control panels. We work in the mining industry as well as in hospitals and hotels on all sorts of systems including air movement, water movement and HVACR systems.

Being married with 2 teenage boys also keeps me pretty busy and once in a while I find some time to ride my bike into the desert and camp for a few days or we get the fishing permits in order and go up the coast to spend a weekend at our holiday cottage. Other hobbies include rock climbing and firearm restoration but I rarely find time for either nowadays.

Being non-UK based I'm not going to be much use with the regs and qualifications type questions but if it's general electrical I might have some useful input from time to time.

Welcome aboard the new trainee forum, I hope it's of some value to you. The motto around here is there's no such thing as a stupid question so if there's anything you're not sure about just ask.

My Name is Sam, 28 and live in the middle of nowhere in Suffolk. Went to Uni in Birmingham, never got my full degree and tried to finish it off whilst working in a school with the goal of becoming a teacher. After witnessing the horrors of working in education i decided it was not for me and moved back home with mum and dad.

Hopefully starting a level 2 c&g electrical installations course in September and have been looking for work until then.

love being outdoors. be it fishing, shooting rats or just working in my parents small holding. i used to play a lot of rugby a few years back but havnt bothered since me knee started giving me jip, i wasn't that good enough to justify keeping going.
