Hi all, new to the forum.

Looking for some advice re direction to take course wise.

Have completed 2330 level 3 and college signed me up to do the NVQ 3 but I don't actually work full time in the trade so struggling to get the required variation of work. My father-in-law is going to start renovating houses and wants me on board for my expertise??

Question is, what quals do I need?

Part p?
NVQ?
17th regs update?

plan is to do rewires and fixing up to sell the houses on

Cheers in advance!

Part P course - NO!
Part P scheme membership - YES, if you intend to self notify domestic works that fall under part P.
NVQ - Is always nice to get this I think, how ever you may need someone to sign off on your work put forward for the NVQ, so usually means being employed in some way.
Regs update - you'll just need to sit the full course unless you have any previous regs qualifications ie.16th edition.

Lovely stuff, cheers. Do you actually need any particular qualifications to get onboard with the part p schemes? Also, why no to a part p course? Are they really that poor?

You've done the 2330 mate, get the regs done and you can join most scams TBH.

If you do the part p course, you'll probably sit there thinking what the hell as its just about the part p regs.

You'd be better spending the cash on GN3 GN8 and a couple of test and inspect books IMO

I'd personally go along to a college rather than a training center.

Training centers tend to let you give you a folder full of nothing then you turn up and sit the exam.

A college will probably give you some classroom time before the exam

actualy i think 17 th eddition not necessary to join as long as you promise to do it as soon as.
to start wotrk on property you don't need to cough up cash yet,to get it sighned off you need to pay elecsa or napit etc have them check your work have multifunction tester with up to date calibration,17th eddition books ,public liability insurance for 2 million pounds.
after you finnish works you have 1 month to notify labc via your part p scam provider so only finnish your works neer as possible to the assesment.
on joining scam provider you can do domestics for one year then pay scam provider again to check some of your work.

part p courses were invented for people who thought that they need it rather than to actualy train you something ( a scam like the part p bodies trying to get cash out of you to do pir's eicr when you don't need it).
price list.
nvq about £600 plus not sure if you need am2 as well this can get you electricians jib card
this will get you on site and paid electricians salary.

domesic electrician/house basher

scam provider £400'ish
tester £400'ish
insurance £80'ish
on site guide £25.00
regs book £60.00

you need to do 17 th course either route not sure of price

Thekingiam - I have enrolled on the NVQ course but struggling to get variety of work as I build swimming pools for a living and only occasionally get involved in the odd plant room. Have done a couple of full rewires with a mate so it's all familiar but was wondering if there was another route in without the need completing NVQ. I'm going in to business with my fatherinlaw so only need to do rewires and replacing/adding circuits. Don't wanna keep paying someone else to sign my work off!

you need to decide if what you are doing requires a jib card to get on site if it doesn't at the moment then go the domestic electrician route and you can sighn off domestic works,
the nvq you could complete over a longer period if you can get someone to sign off some of the work you do,but in the meantime you will be earning a living.
it's a gamble either way,its up to you.
there are many people ofering to work for free to get there nvq completed if you know someone maybe needs a hand on the weekend.

Part P was introduced to try and stop non qualified people carrying out electrical installlations in domestic dwellings,
Any major works, work in kitchens, bathrooms , shower rooms or external requires the installing electrician to register the job with LABC.
To do this you need to be registered with LABC as part P compliant.
Your giving him false information
Get your facts right!
