Immersion heater stat

Going to replace the immersion heater stat that failed, it's a Backer BT18, been fitted about 4 years but only used during summer off-peak (central heating provides hot water in winter).

Question: is Backer a good make as I'd like to buy something decent that will work/last, any suggestions?.

Hi ,Backer in my opinion was a good make before the introduction of the
safety cut out , at the same time they done away with numbers for the
temperature settings and I now have more failures caused by this t/stat!
Any other make seems to be working ok so no preference by me at this stage .

Gold dot and redring were good quality, don't what they are like now.

like shower man has said new cut outs a pain especially if its fitted to a solid fuel back boiler or heating system they just trip out constantly even when off

That's because it's a badly designed S-F heating system, the cylinder shouldn't get to the temp an over temperature stat will trip.
