Replaced one of these today and saw it had no thermal cutout on it. The new one was to BS EN 60335 and had the cut out.

Question is, these are rented houses, 5 in total and all have the old BS 3955 immersions, the landlord is planning to have EICRs done in the next month or 2, so will these older heaters result in code C2 on when the EICRs are done.

Just wondered if so then i'll give him the heads up and might get the job of swapping them all.:tt1:

Has been a code issue for a while and very easy to miss.....many old periodics didnt pick them up....I guess many new EICR's wont either. But you are correct, they should get a C2.

Yeah all the others must be working as he's had no complaints about them.

Thanks guys

Just browsing the new EICR on easy cert, and can't see where this would be coded. Thought it would come under permanently fixed current using equipment part?

Check the ESC guide on PIRs and EICRs. Was code 2, now C2.

This is a serious safety issue. About 3 years ago a small girl was killed in a council house when the immersion failed on, boiled the water in the DHW and sent it into the plastic tank above. The plastic tanks can't handle the hot water and it collapsed and came through the ceiling. The girl was extremely badly burned and died a few days later in hospital.
There was a right stink about it cos the houses were supposed to have been refurbed.
