Watched the NIEC DVD on periodic testing and he mentioned the immersion does not have a high temperature cut out fited. Can anyone give me some clarification on this as the average immersion heater has a control stat fitted but not a combined control/high temp stat.

So if for example you come accross this in a periodic what code do you issue if a high temp cut out is not fitted ?

An immersion heater that does not comply to BS EN 60335-2-73 (that is it does not have a built in cut out that will operate if the stored water temperature reaches 98 degrees C if the thermostat fails), and the cold water storage tank is plastic. This would be a code 2.

Thanks for that Sintra I forgot to mention that I live in Scotland and our building regs have the immersion venting out onto the roof and not into the cold water tank. I remember reading about a tank stat locking on and the immersion acted like a kettle and vented to the cold water tank sadly killing a child.

I take it this is a code 2 only if the immersion vents into the cold water tank then ? because I think the majority of immersions in Scotland are not fitted with a cut out stat

Hi I think that these types of immersion heater are in fact finding there way into Scotland as suppliers are now only suppling this type I have seen this set up retro fitted on some jobs, some come with a over temp device that nees to be re-set. there is some with, what at frist glance looks like two stats,I think that the re-set type are now banned (might be wrong) as Joe public knows about this and re-sets them without thinking about a replacment
