immersion stat

Hi can an immersion thermostat cut out prematurely before the setting is reached and if so how would i test the stat to confirm this. I ask this because ive replaced a bottom immersion on an economy 7 cylinder and the water only lasts for half a bath in the morning then it runs cold

You could remove the stat and bench test the calibration in hot water with a thermometer and a tester using resistance (ohms scale). Mechanical stats should be within 5% accurate around their normal operating temp and a sensible on/off differential.

Modern stats have a limit stat resetable when pressed thye can be a pain and often trip befor the temperature by the stat is reached especially common when central heating of coal back boilers are also used to heat the water
