Saw a lable on a tank today,,," This tank contains a sacrifitial anode"... whats that all about then ???

Now this brings me back to school days.....Something to do with positive and negative ions and I belive the sacraficial doofer is lower on the whatsit table and therefore corodes first, therefore stopping corosion of the other bits and bobs..........I did get a 'C'
