Immersor boiler not working !

Am a second year apprentice and in my house my immersion heater/boiler has stopped working, the stat down stairs obviously still has power but when it is turned on the boiler is not heating up the water, can this simply just be the element within the boiler is now faulty and may need replaced ?

It could well be. Ask one of the guys you work with to have a look at it for you if your not able to fix it yourself or haven't got the correct test equipment etc.

Good advice Paul, but just another angle on it, be a good oppotunity as a 2nd year Apprentice to have a go and check yourself. I'm Sure you could get your hands on a Insulation resistance tester and you must have a voltage indicator, so check you have voltage at the element when it's calling for hot water, if you have then check that the overload stat as not operated, and if all is ok IR the elemnt.

Be a good bit of fault finding practice. If though the stat is calling for hot water and is not energising the element it may be time to get one of the sparks you work for to go over boiler control systems with you.

cheers guys, yeah i obviously have voltage indicators etc, just was unsure how to do so as we dont really dab into much hot water systems so its all new to me, think one of the guys is going to come over and check it out with me anyways so i shall learn a bit more .
