Hi all
This might be me being totally thick but I fitted an immersun last week and the customer has contacted me to tell me it's heating up the water in the dark with the green light flashing reading" heating water"
the pv system size is a 4kw my question is, does the immersun store export when temperature is satisfied and feeds it into the immersion heater when temp drops?

No it can't 'store' export - you;d need a battery for that :)

Three possible reasons:
1) Someone set one of the boost timers
2) Someone didn't commission it properly
3) It's broke

We haven't had a broken one yet and we've installed lots of them

Didn't think of that one!

4th option? I remember being at a trade show and the Immersun sales bloke specifically saying that if the sensor is reversed it would 'know' after a day and correct it.

I'm not sure how Immersun works (in terms of how it know which way the flow is) so not sure if that's true... talking of which how do they do detect flow direction: the man on the stand was either mysterious... or didn't know himself.

Flow detection determined during commissioning - PV turned off and loads connected in the property mean any current measured must be import. I suppose, given that the time is set in the device when setting it up, if the sensor picked up any current flow at, say midnight, the unit would know it was import and not export. However, don't think this is mentioned in the manual anywhere?

I suspect either a commissioning error or subsequent customer interference

Also because the monitor the AC side directly - it's connected via the power from the board, as well as the CT loop, it can monitor voltage and phase angle and so real power (VxI) and direction of flow.
