immesion heater

can anyone help

been asked to look at a mmersion heater which was not working. when i look at the tank it has one element at the bottom and is feed off a boost unit which is off peak. when looked at the boost unit it looked burnt on some contacts so wired the emmersion to a 230 supply to check if it was working without the boost unit in line. it started up so hopfully it wil be ok.

what i was wondering was how does the boost unit work. does it need a permanent supply as well as a off peak so when the boost button is turned on it will work in the day. like i said it only has one element in tank that is off peak.

normally the have dual elements and dual supplies ,top element being your boost bottom element being the eco 7 ,so when you press the boost i heats the top element section of water ,you may well find that the controller is fed from a permernant feed ,so not controlled via the Eco 7 , as they would with a dual element

The supply was off peak with the boost unit but only the one element. So is it fair to say that the boost unit is serving no purpose with one element. I have put the element onto the permanent supply which was in the cupboard on a jb. Now they have to turn it on when needed or left running over night when its a bit cheaper. Would you say that this is the only way which it is able to run when they need it. Thanks

came across the exact same problem in a flat a few weeks ago. the programmer looked fine until i stripped the unit off it's base plate. the terminals on the base plate were burnt beyond human help, and the only solution was a new programmer.
