Hello peeps, Well here goes the first post and first of all sorry about the length it is going to be.
I have at present the following qualifications
EMTA DEI/001 Domestic Electrical Installation
CG 2381 16th Edition
CG 2391 Inspection, Testing, Certification of electrical installations
HNC Mechatronic
I am currently in temporary employment as an operator/Technician due to having 2381 and 2391 but never use them so looking for a new career path. I am looking, as the Job is not going to last long and does not benefit me for further jobs.
I was looking at updating my 2381 to 2382-20 and doing some sort of refresher for the inspection and testing side whether it be off the notes in the house or at a training provider or college. That I thought would get me started.
I know the stumbling block is going to be getting work to begin with, I can be quite tacticle and persistant so wont let that get me down. But the second problem is I cannot really afford to go as an electricians mate full time so would be looking at working with an electrician to enable me to complete my NVQ's and be there for work if required in the future at reduced rate.
I would be looking to obtain a CG 2330 2/3 In electrotechnical technology Maintenance Preferably as it ties in with my line of work prefering Plant and industrial to Domestic with the downturn at the moment.
As well as gaining the GC2330 would this ultimately allow me to get into commisioning or is there another route that can be taken.
I have read that I can register myself onto the NVQ as I am self employed at the moment but I dont think that is a good idea only an option. The other route I looked at was a training provider which is both expensive (£4500 - £6000) and not value for money however another option. My worry is that after spending this sort of money the stigma of the training provider would follow the qualification and hinder work.
As you can read above it has all got a bit confusing. To simplify I am currently self employed and cannot afford to take a wage drop so looking at backing up/ building on the qualifications at present for future employment however wanting to gain the experience on the way.
Can anyone give me an idea of what to do if the have had a similar experience and what the pro's and con's of there decision were.
Currently getting hounded by OLCI to sign up, and made an appointment for the college on monday to discuss CG 2330 possible more.
Well will leave it here and hopefully will be able to add if there are any questions that are not clear. I am open to suggestions as to what I can do with the qualifications I have, and what to be aming for as I may of overlooked other oppertunitys.
KInd Regards All.
