in-line Wago connector

Just seen these in a TLC advert for "221-2411 Inline Lever Connector":

Looks like a handy thing for some situations.

I have some of them for extending cables that are too short

All they need to do now is design a 3 way one and a small maintenance free box for it, then you can use them when people drill through a cable and the cable can't be replaced.

I think that was the Wago connector that was Chinese copied... before Wago even made it ! Looks like Wago have now decided to make em...

I think they are still the unbranded ones. Not Wago.

I've never quite understood the 4mm in brackets. Is that if you have iron-bru and push very hard?!

Is it the stranded/solid size figures shown?

I have seen that with DIN terminals where the larger size is single solid core, and the smaller the stranded size. Odd, as I would have expected it the other way round!

Presumably no data sheet for those?

I find that careful use of a hammer against some sort of anvil (like a lump hammer)... can make a solid round cable almost square, to better fit the hole in a push connector.

I noticed on CEF website that carriers are available to hold up to five of them side by side. I guess you have to supply your own enclosure

I think you can get a larger solid core in there because the fine strands will catch and fray on the edges of the terminal if you try and shove one in.

Wago 221 suitable for 0.2 - 2.5mm2 stranded and 0.2 - 4.0mm solid.

Chances are, as previously suggested, that's why Ideal have 4mm in parenthesis.

There was a recent discussion sparked by @camoelectric/@Electrics/@biddlybwah that raised the subject of ferruled fine stranded conductors in spring clamp connectors. I think it was @Lucien Nunes who provided sound reasoning why this was less than ideal.

I should clarify. Yes. they're designed for stranded cable, but if you try to shove too large a stranded cable in, the edges will catch and fray. Putting a ferrule on solves that problem but also increases the CSA by the amount of metal in the ferrule, hence smaller rated sizes for stranded vs solid.
