Hi, my name is Marin and I'm currently in the army, I'm due to terminate my service within the next 12 months to take a new path towards an electrical career, I need advice on the courses the military have offered to pay for me to attend, I'm looking for info such as :
- am I likely to find employment
- what's the best route to follow
- if there's any other courses I should obtain.
- any info/advice will be greatly appreciated.

The courses offered to me by the military are as follows :

Basic electrics*
-CITB electric certificate

Domestic electric installation*
-ECS health & saftey - jib
- EAL DEI incorporating part P

IEE 17th edition wiring regulations*
-2382-10 level 3

Inspection & testing of electrical *installations*
- 2392-101
-2392-102
-2391 - 301
-2391-302

PAT
- level 3 CGLI 2377-100
- level 3 CGLI 2377-200

Thank you for taking the time to offer me advice,

Martin.

Take ALL them courses!!!

they will allow you to work as self employed in the domestic sector..! (when registered with a part p scheme operator)

if your looking to work for a employer then i suggest you self fund night classes on the 2357 level 2 and level 3 courses at college.

what is your current rank and trade in the army martain...!!

If you can take all those courses, in the time available, they will be very usefull.
The only other qualification, that I can think of is an NVQ3 in electrical installation.
This would allow you to obtain a JIB card as an electrician rather than as a trainee.
I don't know how usefull the PAT courses are going to be.
PAT testing is mind numbingly boring. I think I'd rather claim the Dole than do PAT testing for any length of time.

i would try and gain a job as a sparks mate in your spare time. Have you been offered any leave? if so, then ring up, or vist local electrical companies, and sell yourself. Being an ex serviceman will go a long way, provided you give a good first impression.

when you have finished your resettlement, then get yourself to college and do an electrical or elecrtical engineering course. This will vastly improve your worth to an employer, and make you a lot more employable. It will also increase your earning potential.

I am so jealous...

I wish someone could have offered me an opportunity like that rather than me slaving away at work for years at a time to fund the courses myself..

you can keep the pat testing course though lol :sleep1:

I wish you the best of luck martin..
