I have just been to fit a replacement light fitting in a holiday cottage, on first check of the board test label read next inspection due 2006 (well out of date!) mixed wiring label somewhat badly wedged under the meter! client informed me a test was carried out in may, produced a full installation cert ( completed on napit desktop) with the deceleration section clearly stating that the install complies with bs 7671 2008 - comments on existing = n/a (printed) No rcd (hand written) the other work carries out by this electrician was to fit outside lights, the install has a shower also, so in my mind has to have a rcd.

Luckily the circuit i worked on still complied without a rcd but what would you do in this situation?

( completed on napit desktop) with the deceleration section Sorry as a non NAPIT man have no idea what that is clearly stating that the install complies with bs 7671 2008 - comments on existing = n/a (printed) No rcd (hand written) the other work carries out by this electrician was to fit outside lights,If he only fitted new lights and not a new circuit then he had no need to fit an RCD on it, he noted it I believe in the hand written part of the certificate, though not clearly as he put a n/a for existing circuit?
the install has a shower also, so in my mind has to have a rcd. Does this certificate cover a shower install?

I just think you have a very poorly worded cert there and as the guys say cover yourself with a letter of recommendations

hi, malcomsanford yes it is a eic, napit desktop is napit software that allows us to create certs and once printed is held on the napit system so hand writing on top is in my mind voiding the cert, the out side lights were not a new cert, but the cert covered the shower as all circuits were listed on the eic, I am still yet to post my mw cert so will accompany it with a letter

Hi sorry for diverting but need you're help on issuing a cert. In september last year i did a PIR on a property and all inspection and test results were well within spec.Since then I have recently installed a new CU and on testing i now have a N-E IR fault on the lighting circuit. Out of goodwill and no charge I have spent a day trying to locate the fault and have put this down to a short or cross connection at a JB located within the ceiling etc etc. Just on the IR point all loads dimmers everything possible were disconnected and just to double check a 250V test was also carried out with phases to earth conductors were disconected from the CU main switch isolated. What i want to know is if i can still issue an EIC on completion if the lighting circuit is not protected by an RCD as the owner is not willing to rectify the fault as they are saying i should of known about it???? Any ideas or help greatly appreciated.... Back to the cert can i issue one if so what do i state on it???

if you replaced a like for like component you did not alter the installation so rcd's don't come into play as its maintenance, as for test certs some else without sufficient knowledge, suppose thats why they're in NAPIT!

Malcom, my point exactly, sorry if i was not clear on what i was saying, this guy issued a eic when it he was asked for a pir and to fit a few new lights which only needed a mw!

Thats a very contencious opening post, its also one that I and others may think is a little provocative and untrue

There again its your opinion,a little out of step with my own,so maybe its best left at that
So welcome to the forum anyway
