We are installing a 47.75 kWp system in January, and the customer is also looking to put another ~30 kWp system on a new build next year on the same supply. The earlier install will receive a FiT of 15.2p, but will the install of the second system attract the 12.9p (as now > 50 kWp) and the first retain the 15.2p, or will the system be treated as a whole and the reduced fit apply to the whole system? Any help would be appreciated.

It depends whether it is all treated as a single site. Is this all on a single 3-phase supply with one MPAN?

Ted isn't it if they extend after a year (ie more than 12 months after point of commissioning) the new extension receives the current rate and the old part carries on the same but if the site is extended inside the first year then all the site is changed to the rate applicable at the point of commissioning the extension?

Not any more. DECC abolished the '12 month for extensions' rule last month. Now every system or extension just gets whatever the current rate is at the time it is installed.

OK, so it's a single site.

Assuming the proposed DECC changes go through then this is what should happen:

The 47.75 kW system will be paid at 32.9p from Jan install to end of March or until the extra 30kW is added, whichever is sooner. If the extra 30 kW hasn't been added by 1st April then the rate for the 47.75 kW system will drop to 15.2p (plus whatever RPI increase is added).

When the 30 kW system is installed you will have a single 77.75 kW system which will be paid at 19p up until the end of March (if it is fitted before then) and then 12.9p (plus whatever RPI gets added) from 1st April onwards.

At the end of the 25 year term for the 47.75 kW part you will then just have payments for a 30kW system for a few months which will get paid at the 15.2p rate (plus all the accumulated RPI increases).
