Hi guys, i need to carry out a full test on about 10 lighting columns which are fed of a feeder pillar

these will then belong to the council.

as there is no distboard in the feeder pillar, just henley blocks, how do i record that down on the test sheets??

also is there a special testsheet for lighting columns on roads??

any help would be great

many thanks.

Hi.

Where is the overcurrent protection for the light circuit then??? Surely the henlys aren't just connected directly to the DNO service head???

My local council are terrible when it comes to adopting a street lighting installation, fussy as hell.

When I worked for a council on Pay & Display parking machines, supplies where taken from DNO cables and where terminated in a Lucy Oxford fuse carrier which is the same way lighting columns are supplied.

We dont know what he has there.

Bit more info please K.

On a new install my council spec is - from standard 60A DNO cut out to secondary 30A cut outs with no more than 6 columns per secondary cut out. 10mm3c from feeder pillar to columns terminated into lucy/tofco 6A fused cutouts with earth rod at end of each branch. Flex upto each lamp is 2.5mm 3c HR.

very similar lenny, 60a wpd cutout, lucy dp switch, to 30a cutout to 20a cutouts, then from the 20a cutout to the columns via a lucy cutout with 6a fuse in them with 2.5mm feeding the light. all wired in 3 core 10mm street lighting cable not just normal swa.

so any info on the testing please guys?? forms etc?

I am not an expert in these matters, but since nobody has answered the question I will say what I would do. If anybody want to contradict me then I will be learning too.

Does the cable size reduce at the feeder pillar? If so and there is no cut out then I would fail the installation. If not (cable does not reduce) then go back to the prior supply point, there must (should) be a cutout somewhere and this should be treated as the DB

Each columb should have its own cutout and therefore represent a seperate circuit on the test schedual. Testing should be carried out at the furthest point, so at the light, but before any control circuitary if fitted (eg balast or starter). Hope you have a cherry picker handy.

Normally all the control gear ballast etc are at the base with just a T & E going up to the lampholder at the top.
