Only you know whats involved with the job, my quotes vary up and down dy around ÂŁ500 on the same spec system, sometimes its because of extra scaffold, sometimes its a bitch of a job - but ÂŁ12k to me sounds about right. But then again just look on Google and some users on this forum are doing 4Kwp sub 10K!

I honestly dont know how they could do it for sub 10K. been on a couple of quotes this morning and it seems 12k for a 4kw is becoming normal. it was inevitable that we would get squeezed on our prices but it seems to have happened in the last 3 weeks round this way. Wierd!

I dont do any p.v. stuff at the moment,,however it seems every time i leave the house ,i spot another van with trees all over it.. it seems to me that everyones doing it ..great for them, but the more compitition there is , the more the customer can beat the price down.

Easy - it depends on what your buying - only this week i was offered a 4kwp Kit - Chinese - ÂŁ5250, and from a brand we all know - im not going to divulge any more info, but just to show you if your buying at the right price you can sell at a competitive price/or make more money.

Just Lost another quote on price. Priced a 3.43KW for 12K am i being to optimistic. what are your thoughts?

I recently lost a 4Kw Job, 16 x Sharp NU 245 Panels and SMA 4000TL Inverrter, it was on a big house, consumer unit was along run back, I was ÂŁ 12.6K

The company that won it are doing it for ÂŁ 10.5K, I dont know the spec of there equipment.

12K is bang on to me Smiffy 99, We all need to stick together in this industry and not let it become cut throat like the electrical contracting has gone!
This is why I went in to this really!

Exactly. electrical contracting has stated to become a waste of time on anything involving builders. every quote we do we know is to knock someone else down. If its down to 10.5K now what will it be like in 5years?

I was shown this by a customer This morning, mmmm who would spend there life savings with Tesco?

It went out as part of an e-mail campaign yesterday.

On the pricing aspect with customers, you can always try and slip this old quote in somewhere

“The bitterness of poor quality
is remembered long after the sweetness
of low price has faded from memory....
Aldo Gucci, 1938”

4kW @ ÂŁ12K +/- ÂŁ500 depending on the fit. See tesco have just announced a summer sale on solar too.

I was offered advertising in a local Tesco store yesterday - bit weird really. I pointed out that they sold solar already and they said yes, they knew but this was for local companies. Tesco stuff is a bog standard install, a couple of set designs and if you fall outside of that - tough, so there's still a very good market for those slightly more complicated roofs.

I actually had 'Tesco' come round and quote.

The sales are managed by Enact, though the telephone rep didn't actually know which of the various enact companies uit was he kept swapping names on the phone, pushed him about MCS resgitration (the sales company isn't) and he insisted installtion would be by an MCS regsitered company.

Appointment was set up with a local installer, reasonably professional, I refused / didn't sign any of their paperwork :)

The visit was professional, though he did miss a few things (earthing check, supply box, roof ...) he did come to the correct conclusion - our roof isn't suitable for any PV (shading is horrendous) eventually I showed him a possibility and he quoted for a system to go on the flat roof of our garage.

Price was nothing special though.

The biggest problem is the lack of gaurantees even if you do sign their contract on getting exactly what the quoted for and when you'd get it - they have loads of exculsions on the quote.

As a consumer, if I could have dealt direct with them, I probably would have, however I would try to cut out tesco (that's just me though!)

Next project is a 10kWp groundmount in the garden! (so long as the DNO is happy ;) )
