We are currently in the process of drawing up an electrical installation specification for
a 4kW array which is to be ground mounted and have the following queries: -

1) If the array is on the ground, do the mounting rails have to be earthed?
2) Good practice would suggest that the DC cables from the array back into the
building should be mechanically protected against damage

What does anyone think??

1. What earthing system is at the installation now.

2 Yes. How are these cables going to be run back surface or buried?

The earthing system is PME. The closest available DB is in a detached garage which as had PME distributed to it.

The cables will be not be buried.

Earthing or bonding array will be determined by the inverter. TL inverter will require bonding and as the earthing arrangement is TNCS then this will need an earth stake. As for DC cables consider having the inverter under the array outside and run a AC cable back to the DB.
