We have been offered the contract for the install of a 10KW system on a commercial roof, the customer does not want the generated energy to serve this building he wants the ac supply run 80meters to feed back into his single phase domestic meter. I have spoken to the G59 team because it is above 4KW on a single phase and they are not happy with domestic over 4KW due to tripping.

Can anyone offer any other possible issues with this install so i can relay the correct information back to the client so we can move forward.

The client has got three phase installed but only single to the house, i have advised 3 x G83 for each phase and just win out on the one phase to the house and then just enjoy the FIT.

Dependent on what is in his commercial building , surly they would use more power than his house so why would he want to do it in the first place ?
If it is for a tax dodge , then he would not stand a chance for the domestic side ( 80m away ) . Well i do not think he would , but i am sure Worster or Bruce could clarify this for sure .

Hi

He wants to use one of his commercial roofs and gain the tax free advantages in his domestic property, i believe. He is using the area on one of his barns to his advantage, but what issues arise is complicated.

Thought so , i believe that among other things you would have to prove a reasonable usage in the house for said system , the bill would have to be paid privately and it is within the cartilage of the house .
Now there are of course other bits to watch out for and no doubt some that seem to be just made up on the spur of the moment sometimes ( Well maybe not quite like this , but it does feel that way sometimes ! ) but i would personally say 80m is stretching the cartilage i fair bit !

If the modules are to be installed on a commercial roof you will need to make a full planning application, irrespective of where they feed back to. This usually takes ca. 6 weeks, prior to which you will need to prepare scale drawings of the proposed installation and provide a design and access statement.

You will also need to consult building control, who's remit is more towards the structure being able to accommodate the additional load implied by the PV modules - BC may ask you to provide evidence that the pv's do not add more than 15% of the load bearing capacity of the building, if they do it will cost ca. £250 for structural engineer to visit site and do the calcs.

The cable run would need to be pretty hefty too.

I'm not too sure on the tax or legal implications of having equipment on a commercial roof, which is likely to have separate deeds, and then feeding the energy back to a domestic property.

Hi

The planning application is allready in process and we have instructed a structural engineer to undertake calculations. The issues are that the supply is being taken from a commercial and fed to a domestic at a fair length. It would be much easier if he was to have the supply installed to the three phase supply at his office area which is near his house.

I am losing the will with this install!!

To be tax-free, HMRC say the install should be 'at or near' the domestic premises. As always, HMRC helpfully provide no definition of 'near'.

As stated before, you'd also need to try and ensure a fair proportion of the generation is used on-site. Having said that, you'd probably be on deemed metering for a good while so no-one would know how much you're feeding back.
