Was woondering how others route there cables through joists, do you drill all new if there is existing notch's when doing re-wires cos we do some old houses and there is loads of notches already weakening the joist. Do you use them and use safe plates to protect? Also do you bond all the safe plates?

Another one is running cables in stood wall's, and ceiling's that will be insulated. Like in new houses and extensions. Allot of other sparks i know dont do cable calcs for factors such as insulation and are just running 2.5 and 1mm for any routes. I've started to use 4mm for sockets and 1.5 for lights if in contact on one side but i would like to know what others are doing.

cheers

yes i agree it would be a pain but it does say that protection if of metal should be eathed.

Anyways you didnt answer my questions guys.

always drill new oles as the old ones are done with a 10mm bit. Also the old holes are never in line, never used notches either
