Have been asked to intall a paypoint card machine in a shop. They only have the one phone line in. Can I just use a splitter on it for the dedicated line for the machine?

We installed 5 in a shopping centre last summer and they just plugged straight into the existing standard extension points on the mall, no dedicated lines.

If it was a newish phone system at the mall (say, wired in CAT5) then each point can be set up as a dedicated line by the switchboard.

I believe it will need its own dedicated line or else no-one could use the machine when the shop is using the phone etc.

The one I fitted needed a dedicated line.
