I have been installing ct's for current monitoring, I have been asked to put up outside air temperature sensors which relay back to the monitoring board, whilst I'm quite capable to do this I don't understand what they would be used for? Anyone enlighten me?

Rob

when you say monitoring board do you mean the h&v control panel?if so it,s a ref.so it can compensate between outside & inside temperature

If the temp. goes up or down and it's an hvac install then the temp. sensors will tell the unit whether to provide more heat or cold and the ct's will monitor the system and provide all sorts of weird and wonderful information for the on-board computing machine to wrestle with? Sorry lads it's the best I can come up with, had a few too many sherbets ( Scottish for drinks).

It's got to be a BMS system monitoring external temperature and the CT's will be measuring current draw.

Between this and many other factors the system will probably be able to show energy used and compare against external factors.

Only thing I can think of.

A huge business has been created in the energy efficiency field.

When sensors are used the most common way of feeding the information back is to either have a 0-10v input or a 4 -20mA anologue inputs. If the sensor is a PT100 (100ohms at room temperature) then as the temp gpoes up and down the resistance of the sensor changes with a consatnt volatge being supplied then the current would go up or down accordingly. i would imagine the current transformer is stepping up or down this value or may just be being used for isolation reasons (shaver socket principle)

Best Guess hope it helps

I'm guessing data acquisition to establish the relationship between high/low load and temperature/weather conditions. Could also be provision for a load shedding system if they're short on capacity for the heating load during cold weather conditions.
