I am in the process of buying a house and the previous owner has now decided he wants to charge us an additional ÂŁ1200 for the security cameras and alarm system all wifi (originally came free with the house) and linked to their phone or he will rip it out and take it with him.
What i would like to know, is it possible to connect a new alarm/cctv wifi system to an existing wiring system and the crux is i wont know what system it was previously, or will i have to get a whole new system rewired into the house?

Thanks

if the alarm and cctv system were all wifi, all you might have is a few junction boxes where they drew power from as the data was sent over wifi, likewise the alarm could have been the sort with batteries in each sensor, so will have no wiring to use.

i'm in the process of quoting for a wi-fi system with comms to mobile via app. with 9 detectors and 4 cameras, the material cost is over ÂŁ1000, so ÂŁ1200 is not so far out, but it's all 2nd hand, so half that would, IMO, be an appropriate figure.

Don't you love these folks - is the bath included, or is that an extra?
I also think for that money he can take it :)

In my opinion I'd tell them to take it and install a wired IP camera system.
I agree!
while wireless is nice there is an inherent security risk with it.
of the many apps out there that detect wireless networks, there is a large number of them for breaking wireless passwords. leading to unauthorized surveillance by possible burglars.
wired network can be run in conduit to protect it from rodents, the weather, and possible tampering. also a wired system is more reliable.
most cameras you can purchase may have the capabilities for both.
if you choose to run it as a wired system disable the wireless feature if possible.
