Hi there

I have had a 2Kw system for a while now, and with the FIT rate getting chopped soon I am considering getting a second 2Kw system installed.

Can I install this as a completely separate system, with its own generation meter, and to safeguard myself from any issues, register with a different energy company to my existing?

Thanks a lot,

Dan

P.S. If not, what's the exact procedure going forward?

If this is installed/registered on or after the 12th December you will only get the new 16.8p rate for the new part (21p x 80% as you will have multiple systems) unless you fit it as an extension when you would get 21p. If you can beat the deadline then you should be OK at 43.3p. (Subject to the proposed changes actually going through.)

It doesn't matter if you have it on a separate meter or not (it might do from a pure cabling point of view) as the readings on a single meter would just get pro-rated between the two systems if they are on different tariffs. You would need two meters if you wanted to split across suppliers - but this seems an unnecessary complication that would possibly create more problems than it solves.

And it depends who you are currently registered with for FiTs and who your import contract is with as to who else might accept you.

Make sure you don't go over the 4kW limit, even by 0.01.
