Hi.

When installing new tails should I cut the grey insuation back far enough to leave some of the brown/blue inner insulation showing at each connection point?

Thanks
Harry

I always leave a bit of the colour visible and ive come across t a few times, dont think theres any harm in it, about half a centimeter looks neat enough.

I remember during my 2391 there was a deliberate mistake on a visual inspection test where sheath was stripped back on T&E so about 10mm of insulation was showing outside a surface mount box.

This was supposed to be picked up as a failure because somewhere in the regs it states that unsheathed cable must be in an enclosure or trunking.

I was under the impression that meter tails had an outer sheath to meet this requirement, therefore should not be strippped back far enough to show exposed insulation.

I know for definate that portable equipment should fail a PAT test visual inspection if cable sheath is damaged, and insulation is showing. Even if the insulation is undamaged.
