i found that the judgement was a little lacking. ive just read it, although quickly, and i think that its to easy, for a company to say that they are supplying electricians. does that mean that schemes will have to adjust their marketing, to say that all of their electricians are not qualified? implying somethinmg is the same as saying it in my eyes, and i beleive that the ASA agree.
what do you think IQ?

I think it depends ultimately on the wording of any contracts and specifications applicable to the particular contract.

As always, the devil is in the detail!

Yes interesting indeed IQ, I see the Court has left it to the industry to decide what is 'Qualified' don't most employers ask for qualifications in excess of level 3 NVQ based apprenticeship now?
especially interesting is the mention of 'Accreditation of prior learning' do you know anything more about this?

Many 'situations vacant' ad's seem to want JIB approved with 2391 qualification but that's an employers luxury due to the present abundance of labour.

Only a couple of years ago, companies were taking on improvers to fill electricians roles!

I suppose it all depends on the scope of work, we mostly do inspecting & testing and wouldn't keep a contract for long if we used improvers or labourers in anything but the most basic of roles.

On the other hand, if you're installing 500 metres of heavy duty tray on unistrut brackets, do you need approved electricians with 2391?

Again NVQ3 comes up but....there can't just be that route given credit. There are not enough apprentiship vacancies for everyone to aquire the NVQ3.

So the mention of Accreditation of Prior Learning for adults must also be given credit. I suppose this is learning without apprentiships.

After all its not about keeping the numbers down in my opinion. If only the apprentiship NVQ3 route was excepted as a qualified electrician then there would be a major shortage.

weare then going down the road of skilled mechanical assemblers and the like. most of my work for the last 2 years has been containment. i for one, would not like to see SMA's. it would only serve to be able to employ electricians, albeit on a lower wage, as we all have to work, and it would be the same elcticains that would have been doing the work, applying for the SMA jobs, as there would be less jobs calling for electricains
