Hi all

Just after some opinions really.

Im 1st fixing a large single dwelling at the moment. Apart from general electrical crcuits we are installing hard wired intruder alarm, Cat 6 cabling, speaker cables, cables for SKY tv & telephones.

I am trying to keep the different wiring systems as seperate as I can but with it being a house they do inevitably cross paths with one another and in some places they are rather close.

What are the chances of there being problems with interference? or are modern electronic systems fairly robust in this respect.

Many thanks in advance.

crossing mains cables at 90deg. is ok. when running parallel, a spacing of 6" ( that's 150millipedes in foreign) is considered about right.

Depends really, use good screened cables, terminate ends correctly and you shouldn't have any problems with interference. As Tel stated it's always good practice in any event to not run completely different systems in parallel over long distances, 90d crossings shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks so far. The parallel runs are generally seperate. They may run along side for a few inches in places but with a couple of inches apart. Elsewhere when running parallel they are around 6 inches apart.

The TV cables are screened but the Cat 6, alarms, speakers & telephones are not.

I have come across installations in the past, comercial mainly, where not much regard for seperation has been made and everything appears to have worked.

Ive pretty much finished the 1st fix and am just starting to worry a bit. Im keeping them as seperate as i can really. just wondered if interference problems are common.

The chances of 'interference' is very low. It's often more noticeable in analogue systems such as speaker wires/RCA cables/telephone wiring etc. If there's no sections longer than 10 meters where the cables are side by side then I wouldn't worry.
