Hi guys,

Doing a job at the moment which is basically turning an old office building into 5 Apartments.. In the communal area we are obviously going to need to install some lighting and emergency lighting. We were toying with the idea of Time lag switching or motion sensors in the ceiling, but ceiling space in the communal area is limited. Have you guys come across any Bulkheads with built in motion detectors, with emergency back up, and LED by any chance? I know you can get standard 2D fittings with the motion detectors but haven't come across any of the above.

Thanks

If you use a decent occupancy sensor they're pretty discreet and you should be able to set the time delay etc. I've not see bulkheads with integral PIR's but it wouldn't surprise me if they're available but then you'd have individual lamps switching on and off at different times...

Just while I was looking for some flood light instructions I came across this bulkhead which is basically a 2D emergency fitting but has the option for an LED conversion and also has the option for PIR or microwave sensors, I am not sure from this whether they can all be fitted at once but might be worth asking them.

A few ceiling sensors would sound to be the best option, though if you have no space then this may be an alternative.

Use motion-sensor switches instead of time-lag switches (you can get two-wire versions) - this will minimise the extra installation work. You can also find emergency kits to adapt almost any light fitting - get your friendly local wholesaler to flog through the catalogues and find the right package for you, it's what they're there for ...

Nice try Stuart but no cigar, when you say you've come across them it would be more accurate to say you work for them. Firstly please read our advertising policy, if you'd like to be a forum sponsor please contact Dan. Secondly no more advertising links.
