Do smoke alarms that have been installed in a domestic property have to be interlinked?

The onsite guide states that "all new and refurbished dwelling houses to be provided with a fire detection and alarm system"

But the house is not new or been refurbished.

The property has 1 heat detector in the kitchen and 2 smoke alarms and are not interlinked. Do they require to be so?

Regards

Si.

Simple answer is that it depends on why you're fitting smokes.

If they're newly fitted for any reason, then they should be interlinked, but that's more out of good practice than any legislation.

Certainly, if a Fire Risk assessment has been carried out for any reason, which has recommended the fitting of smoke detection, it will likely also want compliance with BS5839-6:2004. At the lower grades, F-D, no requirement is placed for interlinking, which IMO, defeats the point of having the things in the first place....

All fire safety, relative to fire detection and warning centres around the very fact that you want to warn people of the threat of fire as early as possible!

If they have been previously fitted, certainly prior to the change in the building regs requiring smoke detection to be fitted to new or refurbed dwellings, then they will comply as fitted.
