can anyone help with the following fault which is driving me mad

the main switch on my c.u. is tripping intermittently. sometimes when it trips and is then turned back on everything is ok, at other times it will trip constantly
for a number of minutes. when it does the latter the fault can be traced to one of the ring main mcb's -of which there has been no work done on it recently.

could i be correct in presuming that this is in some way a neutral to earth fault of some kind?

any suggestions would be gratefully received

merry xmas etc to everyone

regards, db

It could be many things i'm afraid!! To be honest with you, it would be best to employ the services of a local qualified electrician, who will have the knowledge and the test equipment to trace and rectify your problem.

If you want, you could always put up your location here and maybe one of our members will be close enough, to pop round and sort it out for you... This is not something a DIY'er would be able do, im afraid!!

Try disconnecting all appliances and switching off any F.CU's on the offending ring circuit and resetting the main switch if all is O.K then start plugging in the apploances one at a time until it trips this may then prove it to be a faulty appliance, if not its time to call in a sparks.
