Currently I am doing design for high mast lighting to light up area at shipyard. In my design, there is no detailing on the internal wiring of the floodlight wiring/circuit which usually comes up during shop drawing production stage by contractor. I'm just curious what kind of cable need to be used for the internal wiring for each of floodlight. I heard it's neoprene type but not really sure that is the most practically used. My clique said the internal wiring does not use normal PVC cable like the street lighting pole because of the higher temparature inside the high mast (though i think it is the same with street lighting pole:thinking:).

Any thought?

Hi Azricc,

as this is a U.K. based forum most of the advice we can offer would only be based around U.K. standards. Have you consulted your local regulations?

I can't believe your wasting time and effort designing such lighting mast/poles when there are ''off the peg'' mast designs out there, to cater for just about every area lighting situation imaginable, that are also constructed to meet the most exacting standards and demands....

There is no specific indication on the internal cabling type for the floodlight, afaik.

As you are the one designing it, please don't take advice from an internet forum. ;)

Just to clear thing up. Im not designing the high mast. Im not even designing for the internal wiring. I just want to know what kind of cabling used for the wiring of floodlight running inside the high mast.

Ask the person designing it then...

Think you had better make your mind up exactly what you are doing!! Can't get much more contradictory than those two statements!! lol!!

Oh man. Think i better rephrase myself.

I am doing the design for the high mast lighting. It is area lighting design with the use of 30 meter high mast to light up the shipyard area. The design for the mast is coming from a high mast specialist which is the maker. The lighting calculation is done by Schreder, which is the brand for the floodlight. The internal wiring for the floodlight usually done by contractor and which the shop drawing for the internal wiring will need to be submitted to me at later stage for review.

There is no contradictory in my statement.

I am not gonna go on with these kind of argument.

Ask the person designing it then...

Is that the way to answer this kind of question? I am curious about electrical design and this is how you answer? What if I ask what kind of cable type is used for internal wiring inside a switchboard? PVC or PVC/PVC? Is it hurt to ask somewhere else and should I go straight to the switchboard manufacturer?

This is the first thread I'm creating in hope of some constructive discussion, but turn out I'm hoping too much already.

I just can't see the point in asking a question on a forum in another Country about something which could be answered by a simple e-mail or phone call to the designers of the mast.

Where lighting fittings mounted on masts at heights of 30 m (or more) the masts will need some form of raise and fall mechanism for the flood light fittings/fixtures. Which may entail special cable requirements.
