Intruder alarm issue - possibly sensor problem?

Hi


I have a Scantronic intruder alarm installed in my home.


Recently it stopped working. I can't arm it anymore.


I think the reason is that somehow it lost the think round shaped sensors on the door frame.


When the main door is opened, earlier I could see two which circular sensors - one inside the door frame and another on the door itself. So when I closed the door, the 2 sensors come together and alarm arms itself.


Now, I see that the sensor on door's side as it is but the sensor on door frame is no longer there (it was glued so probably fell and sucked into vacuum cleaner though I can't find it anywyere).


My question, is it some DIY job to fix it or I need a professional to do it?

the contact on the door frame is the one that is wired. can't see it going anywhwhere unless the wires have been cut. it's a simple fix for your local alarm engineer.

Hi,

Normally one side is hard wired, the other side is just a magnet in a plastic enclosure.
If it's the magnet that's easy to replace , if it's the wired contact you really need someone into replace it; but I don't see that disappearing.

I have attached 2 photos (apologies - I realized only after uploading that I should have rotated the pictures vertically)

The first one is showing the door frame. I hope you can see a faint circurlar patch where I think missing sensor was.

The other picture with circular sensor is on the door.

So, I can't see any wiring at all.

The alarm system is Scantronic 9450 (or 9400 - can't remember exactly).

looks like the contact bang in the middle of pic.1, painted over. definitely a job for an alarm engineer.

The reed is more than likely buggered and staying open circuit. It really is a quick fix for an alarm engineer and shouldn't cost you that much. The wires will be clearly hidden in the frame if it was wired when your house was being constructed.

A second look at the picture I can point out that the wire will come from that Panic button, so there could be a join in there that has become loose aswell

the magnet is in the edge of the door behind the white plastic, the reed switch is in the frame, this mark is just where a round plug of wood was put back into the hole and painted over....
there's round reed switches in maplin for about £5.00 but it would be easier to get an alarm person to take it out and change it, it will be stuck open...
