Only had cat5e on my van, I know it is dearer etc than alarm cable, just needed to get it done there and then. 4 twisted pair. Wired 3x pirs, 1x door contact, 1x sounder.

Will it work ok? I know it is twisted & solid, not stranded & untwisted. In this instance, will I be ok?

it will , unless the solid strands snap at the terminals. then again, the crappy alarm cable that's beeing supplied lately, your cat5 is probably better.

nothing wrong with cat5. is designed to carry high-speed data, will be more than happy with simple on-off signals from sensors at 5v voltage level.

Haha yeah like I said it was what was on the van at the time. Worth more to me to get it done before the over-zealous builder started laying floors all around me!

Installing an alarm using Cat5 is not a problem it's the future maintenance of that may be the problem

I noticed a while ago that CCA cable is creeping into the alarm industry and some of it is not very clearly labeled as such

I just wouldn't use the CCA stuff

It's a solid core cable so it can be prone to snapping at the termination points if moved during maintenance or fault finding
